The bulk of the 29 records series are from the last hundred years of the hospital's history when it was affiliated with Washington University. However, the St. Louis Children's Hospital had a homeopathic medical staff from its founding in 1879 to 1910. The hospital was then staffed with doctors from the Homoeopathic Medical College of Missouri. Although the affiliation agreement with Washington University was not complete until 1912, the continuity of the documentation suggests a smooth transition in 1910 from homeopathic to allopathic medical staff under the leadership of the Board of (Lady) Managers. Documentation of the first 30 years of the homeopathic hospital is in the following series: 1)Publications (annual reports); 2)Minutes of the Children's Hospital Board of Managers from 1879-1954; 4) Endowments, 1904-1972; 5) Legal documents, 1879-1963; 9) Early receipts and expenditures, 1887-1905; 11) Accounts, 1897-1909; and 21) Clippings and Scrapbooks, 1904-1981.

A group of St. Louis women founded St. Louis Children's Hospital as a charity venture in 1879. Physicians of Homoeopathic Medical College of Missouri staffed the hospital from 1879-1910. When the college closed, the hospital sought another medical school affiliation. Following negotiations between Grace Jones, president of the hospital Board of Managers, and Robert S. Brookings, president of WU, an agreement was reached in 1912, whereby pediatric faculty of WUSM would staff the hospital. In 1915...
